Over the past few weeks, you’ve been working on creating the vision of what your ideal, dream, successful business will look like.  You decided what kind of person you will be both in your business and in your personal life and how you will feel as a successful business owner.  You designed your day and decided what you’re going to do with yourself now that your business is such a success – both in and out of the office.  And lastly, you discovered what sort of things, opportunities and experiences you’re going to have now that you’re comfortable with your success.

Today We Put it All Together

I mentioned at the beginning that for some of you, it might have been challenging to focus on the person you want to be and how you want to feel as your first task.  For others, it’s easier to start with the things you want to have, then move on to what you want to do and end with how you want to be.

I want you to take out all three lists (your Be, your Do and your Have) and put them in front of you.  If you wrote them on the computer, print them out.  You need to see them, feel them, bond with them, if you will.  Now sit quietly for a moment and then look them over.

Take note of how you feel as you read them.  Are you excited and happy?  Can you see this version of yourself and your business?  Does it feel so right?

Or maybe you feel a little anxious and fearful.  Like there’s a feeling of overwhelm and you sense a bit of a panic attack coming on. Could it be…fear?

No worries, it’s all good.  You can’t grow if we don’t get out of your comfort zone.  If you feel anxious or fearful, it’s just your body’s way of letting you know that you’re about to do something different…something HUGE.

As jazz legend Herbie Hancock tells us, “don’t be afraid to expand yourself, to step out of your comfort zone.  That’s where the joy and the adventure lie.

So now that you have your three lists, let’s actually do something with them.  These three tools can help you to find a way to remind yourself every day of your vision…

  • Set an Intention – Write down a word or brief phrase that sums up what you want to focus on with this vision.  Think about what you intend to be or do or have in your business.  Do you want to focus oncreating, overcoming challenges, empowering others, speaking your truth, personal growth, etc.  Now put that word or phrase somewhere where you can see it – like on a bright sticky note!  (I wrote a more detailed post outlining setting intentions that you might find helpful during this process – you can find it here).
  • Write a Mantra or Affirmation – It’s no secret, I love affirmations and mantras.  Writing a mantra or affirmation is an easy thing to do.  Think of an I am (Ican, I any verb…) statement that supports your vision.  Here are some of my favorites (and recent Monday Mantras): I am a powerful leader empowering others; I shine my light so that others can see who they are; Happiness and success follow me everywhere I go; I have the courage to take the first step toward the life I desire.
  • Write Yourself an Awesome Email – I know I’ve mentioned this technique before.  It’s one I use frequently.  Imagine that today is the day that everything is going great.  You are living inside your vision and things are going exactly as you said they would in your Be, Do, Have exercises.  Now write an email to a friend sharing all the wonderful things that are going on in your life telling them how things are exactly as you dreamed they would be.  Share all the good you’re able to do with your success, how you help others, all you’ve accomplished, the schedule and lifestyle you keep, etc.  Then send that email to yourself.  Print it if you need to or save it in your files to look at whenever you need a reminder.

You have now successfully (ha!) creating a full-on, no-holds-barred vision of what your successful business and lifestyle will look and feel like.  Together, your lists, your intentions, your brags, your visions are all great tools and reminders of the success you KNOW you can be.

ACTION PLAN:  Set a timer for 15 minutes look back over all three of your lists.  Make sure you didn’t leave anything out.  Then set your intention, write your mantra or affirmation and send yourself that awesome, everything-is-going-great, I’m-living-my-dream email.  And don’t forget to put your intention and/or mantra somewhere that you can see it (or access it) daily or as needed throughout the day.

I encourage you to schedule an hour or so in another 6 months and work on this Be-Do-Have vision exercise again (go ahead, get it on the calendar today so you don’t forget).  The more specific you can get in your vision, the more powerful you’ll be in attracting those very things into your life.  And remember, no matter how hard you try, you can’t really know what you want (at least not clearly) until you know what you don’t want.  And as your business evolves (and you evolve and change as well), you’ll see that some of the things or experiences that you thought you wanted no longer fit your vision – so change it up! Rewrite things.
